Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Have you ever heard about people who have used dating agencies to find that their dates didn’t quite look as good in the flesh as they did on their pictures? Fatter, longer nose, bad skin or all together so different that it can be hard to believe they’ve used a picture of themselves.

You might have a similar issue - in reverse, with product pictures on web sites - on occasion they can look far better in the flesh than they might do on pictures.

This happened to me yesterday when preparing a 40th Shimmer Birthday Balloons for a client. OK it says “shimmer” in the name, but the silver sparkles really caught the light and the balloon looked great - a real twinkling star.

So much so that my friend Julia turns 30 next week and she’s definitely getting a 30th Birthday Shimmer Balloon.

Moral of the story?

If you are selling products online make sure the texture, brightness, sparkle and all those style details that will get the customer to buy them are shown on the picture. It might make the difference between you making the sale or not. Difficult to picture? Use the text to capture the customer’s imagination and describe the product as accurately as possible.

If you look at the text for the 50th Birthday Shimmer Balloon you will find the words:

Shimmer, star, shimmering, silver, shiny, metallic, sparkle

Enough to get you dazzled!

Whatever you do, never make the product look better than it actually does - it might get you through the first date, but chances are you won’t get a second one!
