How to Make Smarties Cookies

An easy smarties cookies recipe for kids (and adults) of all ages

Wondering how to make your own smarties cookies? Look no further! This easy recipe makes about 20 biscuits, so you will have plenty to share.

It is simple enough for children to help make – even toddlers can join in and help push the sweets in the dough before they go in the oven.

For a slightly different recipe that makes a smaller amount of biscuits, try our other smarties cookies recipe. Our Chocolate Buns Recipe is ideal to bake with young ones too.

Make Smarties Cookies Recipe

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 350g (12oz) of plain flour
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 1teaspoon of baking powder
  • 250g (9oz) of butter softened
  • 300g (10oz) caster sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tea spoon of vanilla extract
  • 160g of Smarties (about 4 40g tubes)

How to make the cookies

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180C/ fan 160C / gas 4
  2. Mix the flour, bicarbonate of soda, baking powder and a pinch of salt into a bowl, then set aside
  3. Cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy, then beat in the egg and vanilla extract
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to form a stiff dough
  5. Using your hands, roll the dough into golf ball sized balls. Place the balls on greased baking trays, spaced well apart as the biscuits will expand a lot in the oven
  6. Press several smarties into each ball, flattening the ball slightly – I’ve found that children often like to play with colours and have each biscuit with a different colour of sweets when making this recipe
  7. Bake for about 15 minutes or until pale golden
  8. Leave on trays to cool for 2 minutes before moving to a cooling rack
  9. The cookies will keep in an airtight tin for a few days

Have fun!
