While researching the article ‘Big birthdays and what they mean’, I was surprised at the variety of landmark birthdays celebrated throughout the world and by different cultures and religions.
The age at which ‘coming of age’ birthdays are celebrated varies enormously. In China a child’s first birthday, known as ‘zhua zhou’ is considered a coming of age birthday, while in Western societies, coming of age is usually celebrated during the teenage years. Yet the exact age is dramatically different depending on exactly where you live and the religion you follow.

Surprisingly, Spot, the lovable puppy famed for his antics in a range of Spot the dog illustrated stories, turned 30 this year. Created by Eric Hill, Spot first appeared in the book, ‘Where’s Spot?’ in 1980. Over the years, his popularity has grown and now Spot stories are enjoyed by children around the world.
Spot stories are simple and educational, featuring Spot; his mum, Sally; dad, Sam; and friends Helen the blue hippo, Steve the monkey, and Tom the green friendly crocodile.

Following their members’ suggestions they have put together a list of toys people wished they hadn’t bought.
Certainly worth a read so you don’t make the same mistakes! The TV ads or the manufacturers’ blurb looked good but the products proved rather disappointing. It may be useful to avoid Christmas Day disappointment and in some cases a horrendous mess!
