Sesame Street Zoe

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Zoe is a furry, 3-year-old orange girl monster who gets so excited sometimes that her words cannot get out fast enough. When she is excited and wants to tell someone something, often she’ll forget for a second what that something is.

She is always dressed in a ballerina tutu and as many girls of her age, Zoe is obsessed with ballet and dancing. She has a ride on car - the Zoemobile, and a pet rock - Rocco, much to Elmo’s constant dismay.

Sesame Street Oscar the Grouch

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Oscar has a green body, no nose, and lives in a garbage can. His favourite thing in life is trash; evidence for this is the song “I Love Trash”. Oscar can also become mobile with the help of his friend Bruno, the trashman, who carries Oscar around in his can.

He despises all things nice and sweet and loves collecting junk, standing in line, arguing, rainy days, and anchovy milk shakes. One thing Oscar does not like is children playing in front of his garbage can.

Sesame Street Grover

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Grover is a friendly, gregarious and very likeable, blue monster. He is multi-talented, taking on many different roles and professions throughout the series. His childlike exuberance has been making children laugh (and occasionally cringe) for more than three decades.

Grover describes himself as a “cute, furry, adorable monster.” He usually does not use contractions when speaking, which gives him a distinctive speaking pattern. Grover is a well educated monster and is eloquent and knowledgeable.

Sesame Street Ernie

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Ernie, the outgoing foil to the more serious and responsible Bert, is great at explaining things, but can sometimes be a bit too smart for his own good.

He is well known for his fondness for baths with his Rubber duck and for having trouble trying to learn to play the saxophone because he would not “put down the duckie.” The Rubber Ducky song is well known throughout the world.

Ernie talks himself into some tight corners, and often falls prey to his own jokes, yet his free-spirited approach to his successes and failures makes him one of Sesame Street’s most enduring and likeable characters.

Continuing further with our biographies of the main Sesame Street characters, today we find out more about Cookie Monster.

This cute blue fury character is most known for his voracious appetite and his famous eating sound “Om nom nom nom” referred to as ‘Cookie monster noise’. He can (and often does) eat anything and everything, but his favourite food above everything else is cookies - hence his name.

Sesame Street Bert

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Bert is the long-suffering sidekick of Ernie. He is more mature, analytical, and considers himself the voice of reason in their relationship. Though seemingly older and wiser, Bert can be rather eccentric and though intelligent, he is also grumpy, boring and easily frustrated.

He enjoys activities such as paper clip and bottle cap collecting, cooking oatmeal and watching pigeons. He also plays the tuba, and loves Bernice, his pet pigeon. Bert is not always a willing participant in Ernie’s adventures as he knows he will end up with the short end of the stick. In the end, however, Bert always forgives Ernie, forever remaining his “old buddy.”

Sesame Street Big Bird

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Continuing our short biographies of Sesame Street characters, we’re introducing Big Bird – a personal favourite.

Big Bird - sometimes referred to as bird by his friends, is an 8′2″ tall 6-year-old yellow bird. Children understand and identify with Big Bird’s excitement over new things as well as his disappointment when things don’t work out or when he makes mistakes. They also see his willingness to try again, to correct his mistakes and just by being persistent, find solutions to problems.
